Additional Information

In the 1881 census return Charles Frederick is conspicuous by has absence – strange given that he was only 12 years old. The reason is that he had been admitted to the Deptford Smallpox Hospital.

There are two inconsistencies with Sarah’s marriage certificate. The first is that her age is stated as being 25, when at the time her age was 28. The second is that her father is stated as being James Thomas Dodson instead of Thomas Dodson. Nevertheless the stated address is as expected, and in addition the 1911 census record gives her birthplace as North Street, Walworth. Interestingly the same father’s name James Thomas Dodson appears on Alice’s school admission record.

‡ Thomas and Sarah Sterry emigrated to Australia on 5th Nov 1913, with their daughter Gladys, age 1.
